Water Margin is the first long novel in Chinese literary history to depict the entire development of a peasant uprising, and it is also a representative work of heroic romance novels from the Ming and Qing dynasties. The story of Song Jiang's rebellion in the late Northern Song Dynasty is indeed historically documented. The Reminiscences of the Administration of the Great Song in Xuanhe weaves together many Water Margin tales, coming very close to a full-length novel. During the Yuan Dynasty, numerous Water Margin plays emerged, with the heroes appearing as stage characters. Water Margin evolved from the long-standing folk tradition of the Song Jiang rebellion, absorbing the essence of folk literature. Over hundreds of years of circulation, the artistic charm of Water Margin has captivated countless readers. Outstanding chapters such as Lu Zhishen Fights Guanxi West, Wusong Beats a Tiger on Jingyang Ridge, Lin Chentou's Windy Mountain Temple, and Wu Yong's Clever Seizure of the Birthday Tribute have become widely recognized stories, offering great artistic enjoyment to people.
