Will there be scars after circumcision?

Patient's question:

It has been nine days since my circumcision surgery. I have been receiving intravenous fluids for eight days and red light therapy for two days. I change the dressing every day. Now, I still have severe swelling. Today, when changing the dressing, there was a small cut on the foreskin above the glans. Can this still heal with a scar? I am so worried. How will the swelling go down? I keep urinating frequently.

Doctor's answer:

From the picture, it looks like the circumcision surgery was done quite well. The complete disappearance of edema after circumcision usually takes about 1 to 2 months. Generally, there is no need to change the dressing every day. Considering you should have undergone a similar procedure at a private hospital, I recommend you follow up and have a thorough check-up at the urology department of a public hospital.
If the wound scar is not problematic now, you can resume normal bathing and grooming. After bathing, dry off the water, use povidone-iodine for sterilization, wear loose underwear, and avoid prolonged erections. If you do get an erection, stand up and move around to help it subside quickly.
In our hospital, we recommend refraining from sexual activity and intercourse for 50 to 60 days after circumcision. Some hospitals suggest only 15 days, but I believe a longer period is better.
