How often to change the dressing after circumcision surgery

Patient's question:

I had a circumcision surgery done in a different place and need to return home urgently due to family matters. I would like to come to your hospital for a check-up and to change the dressing.

Doctor's answer:

After a circumcision surgery, it is generally necessary to change the dressing every 2-3 days postoperatively, and then again every 5-7 days. The (gauze) is usually re-bandaged for about 5-7 days. If there are no issues with scarring at the incision site, you can start showering 7-10 days after the surgery. After showering, dry off thoroughly, sterilize the area, wear loose underwear, and avoid prolonged erections.
For the first 1-2 weeks post-surgery, avoid strenuous exercise and long walks. At our hospital, we recommend refraining from sexual activity and intercourse for 50-60 days after circumcision. Some hospitals suggest a month, but I believe a longer period is better.
In addition to timely medical treatment for male urological conditions, patients must maintain a positive mood and a balanced diet to avoid unnecessary interference with the complete recovery from the condition.
