Features: This book is one of the required textbooks for the 21st Century Law Series at Renmin University of China. Based on the experience of previous textbook writing and in line with the newly issued "Basic Requirements for Teaching Core Courses in Law at Higher Education Institutions" by the Ministry of Education, this book has been compiled. The entire book is organized chronologically, with the legal thought, legislative, and main legal systems of each dynasty serving as the threads, systematically discussing the traditional legal culture of China, represented by the Chinese legal system. In the specific writing process, efforts have been made to ensure relevance between thought and system, mutual verification between classics and examples, and emphasis on key and distinctive points. The book contains approximately 380,000 words, divided into a general introduction and 15 chapters, covering the historical development of Chinese law from the Xia and Shang dynasties to the establishment of the People's Republic of China. The second revised edition of the textbook addresses some editing and proofreading errors in the original version, while also conducting a comprehensive check and proofreading of the ancient classics cited in the book, fully respecting the original texts of the classics to enable readers to access the primary historical documents. Additionally, it introduces the achievements of academic research since the first edition of the textbook and presents famous typical cases from important historical legal events, making the textbook more vivid.
