Features: Professor Hu Changqing's General Theory of Chinese Civil Law is one of the earliest systematic works on Chinese civil law written by Chinese scholars, pioneering the field of civil law literature in China and thus holding significant historical importance. General Theory of Chinese Civil Law is divided into two parts: Introduction and Main Body. The Introduction briefly introduces fundamental issues in civil law such as the development trends of modern civil law, the drafting systems of world civil law, the drafting principles of civil law in old China, and the nature of private rights. The Main Body consists of seven chapters, which are completely structured according to the General Principles of the Civil Code of the Republic of China, providing detailed and almost line-by-line theoretical interpretations of the provisions in this part. The book contains approximately 300,000 words, making it smaller in scale compared to the subsequent famous systematic works on civil law. The entire book adopts modern civil law interpretive methods such as textual interpretation, systematic interpretation, and purpose-based interpretation, and references many foreign legislative examples while introducing comparative methods. It can be said that this book represents the second successful attempt by Chinese scholars to study the new-style civil code using modern legal methods.
