Features: Since the beginning of the new century, Chinese art and design education has rapidly transitioned from the form of applied arts to the form of art and design, while the development of information-based and digital design has also become mature. At the same time, design education has developed even more rapidly, with a sharp increase in the number of schools and disciplines, a significant growth in enrollment, an expanding faculty, and intensified discipline development. These have put new demands on the curriculum design, project planning, and textbook compilation of design education, while also providing new conditions. Currently, there are numerous types of art and design textbooks being written and published. However, upon reviewing their characteristics, most reflect a highly formulaic and stereotypical trend, presenting technical conditions of certain design categories, repeatedly describing proven theories, principles, and formulas, revealing phenomena such as a focus on techniques over principles, applications over foundations, and programmed approaches over originality. These textbooks fail to reflect the principles of education and the guidance of curriculum methodology, making it difficult to inspire students' enthusiasm and experimental interest.
This series of books breaks away from the common practice of most design textbooks, which arrange content based on specific professional directions, industry categories, or design forms, and dissolves the conventional, narrow perspective of specialization and design. Under the principle of "solid foundation and broad scope," this series optimizes the principles and elements, structures and forms of design, integrates content, language, and methods; extracts and summarizes comprehensive elements across professional directions; and optimizes the overall form elements of art and design. Building upon the description of fundamental principles and methods, it expands the scope of basic theory and the knowledge horizon of form.
The construction of this series follows the basic elements and developmental forms of art and design as its guiding thread. This genealogy includes visual elements, forms, shapes, space, graphics, typography, layout, color, materials, decoration, and light and shadow. Almost all types of design forms are reconstructed from these elements and forms.
