Features: Emergency medicine, as an independent and emerging discipline, has a history of over a decade in China. In recent years, especially, to adapt to the needs of social development, the progress of emergency medicine has accelerated rapidly. Clinicians from various departments involved in pre-hospital and in-hospital emergency care, as well as community healthcare workers, urgently need a manual that can guide the rapid diagnosis and treatment of emergencies. To this end, Professor Liu Zhongmin, Director of the Emergency and Trauma Center at Tongji University Affiliated Dongfang Hospital, and Professor Xiao Feng, an emergency medicine expert from the Louisiana State University Medical Center in the United States, have collaborated to meticulously compile this Manual of Rapid Emergency Diagnosis and Treatment.
The service of emergency medicine are critically ill patients. Physicians must quickly identify the key issues threatening a patient's life and address systemic physiological imbalances to provide effective support and treatment. Therefore, to facilitate rapid access to essential diagnostic and treatment content during emergencies, the authors have referenced the writing model of 5-Minute Emergency Consult edited by Professor Peter Rosen of the United States, combined with China's practical realities, and their extensive clinical experience, to create this manual.
The authors of this Manual of Rapid Emergency Diagnosis and Treatment are highly accomplished in their respective fields, and this manual embodies decades of their insights and expertise. I have reviewed the preliminary draft and believe it to be a highly practical and valuable book. I am confident that its publication will be well-received by emergency medicine physicians. I am delighted to write the preface for this manual and recommend it to doctors in grassroots units for reference.
The book is divided into six parts: Symptoms/Signs, Internal Medicine Emergencies, Surgical Emergencies, Obstetric and Gynecological Emergencies, Ophthalmology, Stomatology, Otolaryngology Emergencies, and Common Emergency Diagnostic and Treatment Techniques. Each part lists common symptoms/signs or systemic emergencies, as well as frequently used emergency techniques. For each condition, the primary clinical manifestations are described first, followed by etiology, triggers, laboratory tests, diagnostic key points, and treatment.
The writing style and organization of this book differ from traditional emergency manuals. It is comprehensive, up-to-date, concise, and highlights key points, making it a practical manual for emergency department physicians across various specialties, rotating emergency doctors, and community general practitioners to quickly reference during emergency care. This book is the result of the sincere collaboration of numerous renowned emergency medicine experts from China and the United States, and it is brief, concise, and highly practical.
