Features: This collection includes thirty-four essays or musings, all written in response to invitations from newspapers and magazines over the past ten years, with only six of them never published before. The group of musings titled "Travel Chronicle" consists of the first sixteen pieces, which were published in the "Dushu" magazine and received enthusiastic responses from readers both in China and abroad. Initially, I planned to write a more substantial book about my visits abroad over the past decade, even coming up with a subtitle called "Notes on Language, Culture, Society, and History," but as the saying goes, "great ambitions outstrip talent," and the book remained unfinished. Only a stack of notebooks and twenty-one essays based on these materials are included here. In addition, I have written travel accounts of the United States, France, Brazil, and Denmark, but as they differ in style and have already been compiled in the book "Overseas Journeys and Musings," they are not included here. The thirteen articles in "Reminiscences of the Past" record the side glimpses of the severe and absurd era experienced by the author and his teachers and friends, as well as his own genuine emotions, so all of them are collected here.
