Features: A Concise Dictionary of Ancient Chinese Officials was originally published by Beijing Book and Periodical Publishing House (now Beijing Library and Information Publishing House) in May 1987. Since its publication, the book has been widely welcomed by readers both in China and abroad over the past nearly two decades and has become a special collection in renowned universities such as Tohoku University in Japan and the University of Kentucky in the United States, as well as many other well-known large libraries. This dictionary includes a total of 1,455 entries. The entries cover officials of all ranks up to the late Qing Dynasty, names of official offices, and closely related military systems and imperial examination systems. It also appropriately includes some titles of nobility, colloquial terms, and alternative names. For certain entries inherited by the Republic of China, extended explanations are provided in the definitions. However, entries that originated solely after the 1911 Revolution are not included in this dictionary. The entries are arranged in alphabetical order by the first character, with homophones sorted by stroke order (fewer strokes come before more strokes). If the stroke counts are the same, they are arranged by stroke order. Entries with the same first character are then sorted by the second character, followed by the third character, and so on. Additionally, a stroke index is provided (entries with the same stroke count are arranged in alphabetical order), making the search exceptionally convenient. It is believed that the publication of this book will be of great help to lovers of history and literature.
