On Earth, not every region experiences four distinct seasons. For example, in tropical areas near the equator, temperature changes are minimal, but rainfall varies significantly, resulting in only two seasons: dry and wet, without clear. In the polar regions, the summer sun shines almost all day, while winter brings almost complete darkness, with only periods of midnight sun and polar night, and no distinct.
The changes in seasons are caused by Earth's revolution around the Sun. As Earth orbits, its axis remains tilted at an angle of 23 degrees and 26 minutes relative to the axis perpendicular to its orbital plane, and the direction of its rotational axis in the sky remains almost constant. Therefore, the position where sunlight strikes Earth changes in a regular pattern: sunlight moves back and forth between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn, completing one cycle per year, passing over the equator twice.
Around June 22, during the summer solstice, sunlight directly hits the Tropic of Cancer. The Northern Hemisphere receives the most sunlight, marking summer. Afterward, the point of direct sunlight gradually shifts southward, and the amount of sunlight received by the Northern Hemisphere decreases. Around September 23, during the autumn equinox, sunlight directly hits the equator. At this time, both hemispheres receive equal sunlight, and the Northern Hemisphere enters autumn. After the equinox, the point of direct sunlight moves to the Southern Hemisphere. Around December 22, during the winter solstice, sunlight directly hits the Tropic of Capricorn, and the Northern Hemisphere receives the least sunlight, marking winter. As Earth continues its revolution, the four seasons—spring, summer, autumn, and winter—alternate endlessly.
