Features: This book is a national-level planning textbook for the "15th Five-Year Plan" of general higher education, and a premium project (Category 1) under the "Higher Education 100 Excellent Course Textbook Construction Program" of the Higher Education Press. Based on the features of the previous three editions, the main changes in this edition are as follows: In terms of structure, it is mixedly organized by aliphatic and aromatic compounds, but differs from conventional mixed systems. In terms of content arrangement, the book consists of 20 chapters. In addition to combining alkenes and alkynes into one chapter in the third edition and discussing them based on the reactions performed, this edition further combines alkanes and cycloalkanes, unsaturated halogenated hydrocarbons and aromatic halogenated hydrocarbons, alcohols and phenols, and ethers and epoxides into separate chapters. It discusses the commonalities of functional groups together and then analyzes the individual characteristics based on structural features. Two additional chapters on sulfur-, phosphorus-, and silicon-containing organic compounds and lipids have been added. Chapters on cycloalkanes, aryl halides, aryl sulfonic acids, and organic synthesis have been removed. This edition further strengthens the foundation while incorporating some new achievements in organic chemistry and related disciplines, enhancing the understanding of functional groups and the mutual influence between atoms within molecules. The book has removed some of the reference answers to exercises at the back of the third edition. The Higher Education Press will separately publish a companion volume, "Study Guide for Organic Chemistry," to match this book. Additionally, the book is accompanied by teaching materials (CD-ROM). It can serve as a textbook for organic chemistry in chemical engineering, applied chemistry, and material-related disciplines at universities and colleges, as well as for other relevant disciplines and general readers.
