Features: Some people just want to get certified to please their picky boss, but we believe you're not like that. Indeed, you want to pass the Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD) exam, and not only that, you need to actually put EJB into practice. You'll be building applications, dealing with tight deadlines. If you forget everything you've learned about EJB the morning after passing the exam, you'll definitely be in trouble. We'll see you pass the exam with flying colors and help you apply EJB in real-world scenarios. You'll gain a deep understanding of EJB architecture, session, entity, and message-driven bean lifecycles, CMP, EJBQL, transactions, security, patterns, and more. You'll also learn what component-based development truly means. The more you understand, the less you need to memorize, so don't expect to pass without knowing anything and just cram information into your brain by rote. If you've read Head First Java, you'll know what Head First EJB is like—it'll completely surprise you! If you haven't, you'd better prepare yourself. Head First EJB applies new learning theories to deliver knowledge directly to your brain (no surgery required). You'll engage with this book in unusual ways, allowing you to learn deeper and faster, and most importantly, you'll be able to truly apply what you learn. Building business components with EJB is a popular application of Java, but the SCBCD exam is a real headache. We know this well because we were involved in writing the exam. Since the exam is indeed difficult, we believe we can at least guide you through it, and the cost of this book is only equivalent to 3 large pizzas.
Kathy Sierra (founder of JavaRanch.com) and Bert Bates are members of multiple Java certification exam development teams at Sun, including the SCBCD exam. Together, these authors have taught thousands of developers Java technology using the Head First approach.
