Mother’s Deep Love (Anonymous)
Life is full of subtle, lingering feelings that bring warmth and nourishment in unexpected moments, like sipping tea. Chinese people love tea, and I, with yellow skin and black hair, though young, have an innate obsession with it. My mother doesn’t like tea, but one day, she bought a teapot. This teapot was something I had longed for secretly, though I didn’t know how she sensed my desire. She told me not to wash the pot, as the tea stains that accumulate over the years make it precious. I was puzzled: how could my mother understand the art of tea? The pot was just an ordinary one.
Interestingly, the teapot lid, shaped like a small official hat, was particularly charming. Gently picking up a pinch of Longjing tea, I scattered it at the bottom of the pot. My mother quickly grabbed the thermos and poured hot water for me. Gazing into the pot, I saw the green tea leaves spring into life, spinning and singing softly. A fragrant steam rose, and I squinted, eagerly bringing my dry lips to the pointed spout to savor a delicious sip. Looking up, I saw my mother’s smiling eyes filled with comfort and love—so strong, like the tea in the pot.
Thus, every night when I studied late, there was me and the pot by the lamp. Strangely, every time I took a sip, I became more alert, gaining insights into solving problems and inspiration—like some unseen force that pushed me forward. Sometimes, when I was deeply engrossed in my homework, I unconsciously sipped the cool tea. Once, my mother noticed me and couldn’t sleep peacefully afterward. After finishing her chores at night, she would quietly sit across from me, silently brewing a pot of steaming tea. Each time, occasionally glancing up, I would see the gentle steam rising from the teapot, behind which were my mother’s eyes full of hope and tenderness.
One day, my teapot broke—slipping from my mother’s fingers and falling to the ground. The sound it made was terrible, like a sudden wail. Looking up at my mother, I saw her lips trembling.
