Features: The author believes that to improve oral English teaching, one can start from the following two aspects: 1. Promote discussion-based oral English teaching to replace drill-based oral English teaching models; 2. Oral English teaching requires content as language material and should emphasize content input. Some students have reported that when teachers assign certain topics, students know very little about the Chinese knowledge related to the topic, making it difficult for them to participate in the discussion in English. Therefore, it is necessary to first input language material to students, providing them with the material to engage in discussions. After students read and study this material, they will be able to grasp the content related to the topic and thus have something to say. Based on this approach, the author conceived of compiling this book, English Corpus and Topics, to be used for college English oral teaching or self-study. The topics provided in the book are highly contemporary and of interest to college and graduate students. These topics integrate knowledge, science, and fun, offering a wealth of information. Students will feel they have enough to discuss and explore when tackling a topic. Additionally, the process of preparing the material and participating in the topics allows students to learn more and gain further insights. This is because the process of familiarizing with and learning the material is also one of reading and expanding English vocabulary and linguistic knowledge. Some topics may even have an impact on students' graduation, employment, and future careers.
