Features: "The Report on the State of Chinese Language Life (2005)" is the first annual report on the state of language life released to the public by the National Language Commission, and it is also a part of the "Green Book of Chinese Language Life" by the National Language Commission. The purpose of its release is to raise public awareness of the national language situation, actively guide the language life towards a healthy and harmonious direction, and provide references for policy-making and academic research. However, it cannot be denied that applied linguistics in China started relatively late, with limited accumulated research achievements in language life, unreasonable knowledge structures among talents, incomplete construction of dynamic corpus, and room for improvement in statistical analysis techniques for language and characters. Additionally, the field of language life is vast and the language life itself is intricate, which determines that this report will have certain issues and revelations. It is difficult to start, but understanding is motivation. We hope that readers of this report can treat the data in it as academic data, and even more, we look forward to hearing various opinions and suggestions that will help us continuously improve our working mechanisms, expand the scope of the report, and enhance the quality of future annual reports on the state of language life.
