Rain Alley. I Use My Damaged Palm - Classic Collection

Features: Among modern Chinese poets, Dai Wangshu is extremely rigorous. This book collects representative works of various genres and styles from different periods of Dai Wangshu. Early poems by Dai Wangshu often depict personal solitude, with a strong sense of melancholy. Influenced by Western Symbolism, his imagery is obscure and subtle. Later poems express his passionate love for his country, hatred for invaders, and fervent longing for a better future, with a robust and profound poetic style, refined and pure language. His prose is fresh, lingering, and profound, equally imbued with a strong poetic flavor, allowing readers to feel as if bathed in spring breeze and also to savor the meaning of life amidst subtle sorrow. Dai Wangshu wrote only over a hundred poems in total, publishing four poetry collections: I Remember, Wild Grass, Poetry Manuscripts, and Years of Calamity. Interestingly, Wild Grass is a revised and supplemented version of I Remember, and Poetry Manuscripts is an expanded and revised compilation of both I Remember and Wild Grass. Dai Wangshu continuously revised and refined his poems, some even to the point of being unrecognizable. Poetry Manuscripts can be considered the definitive edition of his early poems, while Years of Calamity is the definitive edition of his later poems. Therefore, including these two collections in this selected works of Dai Wangshu is appropriate (the original Six Poems in French in Poetry Manuscripts has been removed, and a preface by Du Heng has been added).
