One significant reason for diversity and the rising self-identity consciousness lies in the fact that globalization has brought the local awareness, sensitivity, emotions, and passion to the fore. Although we may not be able to attribute the resurgence of this strong "attachment to traditional bonds" entirely to various globalization trends, it is likely an unintended consequence of these trends.
When describing the current human condition, we cannot overlook factors such as race, gender, language, region, class, age, and belief. Racial discrimination threatens the cohesion of all multi-ethnic societies, and if not properly addressed, even powerful nations may face the risk of disintegration. Gender equality has also drawn widespread attention, and no society can escape the strong influence of women's movements aimed at pursuing gender equality. Whether in developed or developing countries, language conflicts are threatening the stability of communities in various ways. Sovereignty struggles are a global phenomenon. If all divided groups seek international recognition, the number of UN member states would double. The so-called North-South issue exists at all levels—international, regional, national, and local. In developing countries, the urban-rural divide is widening. Meanwhile, urban poverty has become a major challenge for developed countries. The generation gap has become increasingly common. The traditional ways of a generation spanning 30 years are no longer applicable to the next generation. Intergenerational conflicts have intensified. Under the influence of music, films, sports events, and computers from different "generations," siblings can adopt distinct lifestyles. Religious conflicts not only occur between different faiths but also arise within opposing traditions of the same faith. It is far from rare that conflicts within the same religion are often more brutal than interfaith conflicts.
In summary, globalization has far failed to dissolve the uncertain conditions that constitute the concrete survival of humanity, the "traditional bonds"—a topic that has been emphasized in recent decades.
