The Storm
In 1946, Xiao Xiang was ordered to lead a rural land reform team to Yuanmao Village in a liberated area in Northeast China to carry out land reform. Due to the villagers' lack of understanding of the Party's land reform policies, coupled with the sabotage by the local tyrant Han Laoliu and his lackey Zhang Fuying, who had usurped the position of the peasants' association leader, the land reform work faced significant resistance and difficulties. The team worked to mobilize the masses while exposing Han Laoliu's schemes and dismissing Zhang Fuying's position, restructuring the peasants' association. Zhao Yulin, deeply resentful and bitter, firmly believed that the team was working for the benefit of the poor and oppressed peasants. He organized active members among the poor and landless peasants, such as Guo Quanhai and Bai Yushan, to cooperate with the team, ensuring the smooth progress of the land reform. Han Laoliu, unwilling to accept defeat, spread rumors and undermined efforts while using false land distribution methods to win people over.
