Sacred love

Author: Lisa A. Esler
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2004-05-10
Features: This book is substantial in size, covers a wide range of knowledge, and contains many obscure terms and phrases, making it quite challenging to translate. The translation project we organized went through many twists and turns and took eight years to complete. After thoroughly reviewing and proofreading the entire manuscript, at the publisher's suggestion, I have written a "Preface for the Chinese Edition" to explore the academic value and intellectual significance of this book.
First and foremost, this is a highly serious and scholarly work on the study of sexuality. Although the book comprehensively discusses every aspect of human sexuality—from ancient to modern times, from animals to humans, from the West to the East, from the North to the South, covering the globe and all of humanity—down to the finest details, it shows no signs of catering to readers with lowbrow humor, nor does it include any illustrations. The author's intent is lofty: she aims to demonstrate that the sexual-corporeal relationship between the two genders of humans is isomorphic with their family relationships, social relationships, economic relationships, and political relationships. Sexology is the foundation of sociology, economics, and political science. This is why the subtitle of the book uses the phrase: "The Politics of Sex, Myth, and the Female Body."
Furthermore, only by first achieving a cultural transformation from a relationship of domination to one of partnership in the sexual-corporeal relationship between the two genders can humanity then realize a similar shift from a relationship of domination to one of partnership in family relationships, social relationships, economic relationships, and political relationships.
