Reading ancient books, appreciating ancient paintings, collecting antiques, writing ancient characters, and engaging in tranquil conversations—these practices cultivate the mind and refine character. Shen Daohong was born in Chengdu in 1947. He is currently a National First-Class Artist at the Chengdu Art Institute, the Director of the Academic Committee, and the Vice President of the Chengdu Fine Arts Association. His works have been collected by numerous art museums, including the National Art Museum of China and the National Museum of Singapore. He has published six personal art books. Shen Daohong specializes in figure painting, with occasional forays into flowers, birds, landscapes, and calligraphy. His works emphasize artistic conception, quality, and intellectual content, blending life experiences, idealism, and the accumulation of Chinese cultural heritage into a single inkwell, emerging effortlessly without trace. He excels in creating grand, sweeping scrolls while also adept at delicate brushwork on small-scale pieces, arranging and condensing with ease. With a brush that holds the middle section and a style like moonlight piercing a pond or wind rippling over water, his strokes naturally form patterns, their power contained yet evident. His works reveal both abstract consciousness and the dual emotions of transcending worldly affairs while remaining immersed in them. The ancient and modern figures in his paintings carry profound meaning and exude a noble and grand style. He is hailed as an artist capable of building an artistic hall while also being content with solitude. This book features 24 of Shen Daohong's ancient costume figure paintings.
