How to treat redness and swelling of the foreskin?

Patient's question:

Last night while I was taking a bath, I noticed a red spot on my foreskin, but there were no other abnormalities. I would like to ask what to do if there is redness and swelling in the foreskin?

Doctor's answer:

The foreskin refers to the double-layered skin covering the head of the penis. During infancy, the foreskin tightly surrounds the penis, preventing the glans and urethral meatus from being exposed. As a physiological condition, with age, the penis and foreskin gradually grow, and during puberty, the foreskin retracts to reveal the glans in adulthood. However, about 30% of adult foreskins completely cover the glans. Based on the above conditions, if the foreskin becomes red, swollen, and painful, it is highly likely that the issue is caused by a bacterial infection. After cleaning with a solution, topical medication can be applied.
