Author: Wang Yinming
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-01-01
Features: The original title of this book was Xiu Rou Ji. Regarding its original author, there has been much debate over the years, with no definitive conclusion. It is now recognized by the editors of The Ten Great Tragedies and Comedies of China (published by Shanghai Literature and Art Press in 1989) as an anonymous Ming Dynasty work. During my rewrite, I changed its title to Qujiang Songstress. This was because the original title was obscure, not popular, and lacked resonance, and also because someone had previously used this name. I believe Qujiang Songstress highlights the identity of the female protagonist and includes a geographical reference, making it both popular and resonant.
