Zhu Xiang (1904–1933), styled Ziyuan, was from Taihu, Anhui. He was a modern Chinese poet who dedicated his life to exploring the creation of new Chinese poetry and the translation of foreign poetry, advocating for the "formal beauty" of poetry. During his time at Tsinghua University, he was known as one of the "Four Wits of Tsinghua" and gained fame as a poet. In 1926, he co-founded Morning Paper Poetry Corner. After studying in the United States in 1929, he returned to teach at Anhui University. Zhu Xiang was outwardly reserved but inwardly warm, with a proud and stubborn temperament. He lived in poverty and instability throughout his life, constantly moving and struggling to find a stable position. After leaving Anhui University, he traveled north and south in vain search of a teaching position, ultimately becoming disheartened. On December 19, 1933, he drowned himself at Caishi in Nanjing.
Zhu Xiang was called "China's Keats" by Lu Xun, and his poetry is immortal. His major works include the poetry collection Stone Gate Collection, the prose and letter collection Central Collection, and Seas Beyond Sending Rain to Jun.
