Features: Robert Louis Stevenson, born in 1850 and died in 1894, was a 19th-century British psychological novelist. Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is one of his most famous novellas.
A tall and upright doctor, Dr. Jekyll, believes that human nature contains two incompatible opposites—good and evil—and fantasizes about separating them. He develops a potion that, when consumed in a small amount, transforms him into another self—a wicked and slender Hyde. Hyde indulges in pleasure and acts recklessly, but after taking another potion, he reverts to the respected Dr. Jekyll. After Hyde commits murder, he takes the potion again to transform back into Jekyll. However, the evil side of Jekyll's nature prevails, and he can automatically transform into Hyde. Filled with fear, Jekyll ultimately takes his own life to escape the loathsome Hyde.
