Principle of Prostate-Specific Antigen Testing

Patient's question:

Medical history and laboratory tests, including detailed examination results: Prostate-specific antigen decreased or reduced

Doctor's answer:

Medical terminology, prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is produced and excreted by prostate epithelial cells into semen and is one of the main components of seminal plasma. In the late 1960s, during the experiment on automatic immune breastfeeding, Hare and others discovered a semen-specific protein with a molecular weight of approximately 34,000 in prostatic fluid and semen. In 1979, this protein was extracted and purified from prostate tissue. Due to its presence only in prostate tissue, it was named prostate-specific antigen.
