The book is divided into 7 chapters. Chapter 1 elaborates on the research objectives, approach, and methodology of the book, while reviewing and evaluating existing research on the topic. Chapter 2 studies the organizational characteristics, decision-making processes, trade negotiations, and dispute resolution mechanisms of the WTO to understand the nature and operations of the WTO as an international organization, revealing the substantive features beneath the WTO's rule-based system. This lays the foundation for analyzing the positioning, roles, and strategies of individual members, as well as China's role in the WTO. Chapter 3 selects four representative members and provides a historical and contemporary analysis of their positioning, roles, and strategies in GATT/WTO. Chapter 4 briefly reviews China's process of joining the WTO, analyzes the decision-making motivations behind this process, and provides a general summary of the content of China's commitments upon entry, the implementation status, and the impacts over the past two years, to clarify China's future role, roles, and strategies in the WTO. Chapter 5 proposes China's positioning and role in the WTO to determine how China can contribute within the WTO and the strategies it should adopt. Chapter 6 defines the fundamental tasks of China in the WTO and the basic attitudes and strategies to achieve these tasks, analyzing the feasibility of such strategies in the context of the Doha Round. Chapter 7 summarizes the main arguments and conclusions of the book.
