After the troops received the transfer order, all the commanders and soldiers did not sleep for days and nights, marching all night long, climbing mountains and crossing rivers, enduring the fatigue that ordinary people could not tolerate. For several consecutive nights, they broke through the enemy's heavily fortified strongholds and broke through the enemy's blockade after blockade, entering southern Hunan, and arrived in Zaiqian, Guixi County on August 11, 1934. The next day, a grand assembly was held in Zaiqian, where the Central Committee representative Ren Bishi officially announced the establishment of the Sixth Red Army Corps. The Sixth Red Army Corps consisted of the 17th and 18th Independent Divisions, totaling more than 9,000 people. Ren Bishi, Xiao Ke, and Wang Zhen formed the Military and Political Committee, with Ren Bishi as the chairman of the committee, Xiao Ke as the corps commander and commander of the 17th Division, Wang Zhen as the political commissar of the corps and political commissar of the 17th Division, Li Da as the corps chief of staff, Zhang Ziyi as the corps political director, Yuan Renyuan as the deputy director, Long Yun as the commander of the 18th Division, Gan Siqi as the political commissar of the 18th Division, Tan Jiashu as the division chief of staff, and Fang Liming as the division political director.
Because Ren Bishi correctly implemented the Party's policies and principles after arriving at the Sixth Red Army Corps, Gan Siqi was able to return to his military post. In the dire situation of the army, he took on the heavy burden. After the troops were transferred to Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, and Guizhou, Gan Siqi was further promoted to the political director of the Sixth Red Army Corps.
Gan Siqi and Long Yun led the 18th Division as the vanguard of the corps and continued westward. After about five or six days of marching, they captured the city of Xintian. They only rested for one day in Xintian before advancing towards Yongzhou (now Lingling). To cross the Xiang River, the leading troops of the division marched 120 kilometers in one day and night to reach the riverbank. After reconnaissance revealed that the river was wide and deep, with enemy forces blocking the way, they had to turn back again.
At this time, the Nationalist army led by Wang Dongyuan was relentless in pursuit, forcing the Red Army to cross over the Yangming Mountains. When the troops reached the summit, there was only a small temple there. Everyone was already very tired and had to camp there, boiling some porridge and hot water in iron buckets and basins to relieve their hunger and thirst. The next day, the troops descended the mountain and reached Baiyu City, where they had a meal. After resting for a few hours, they learned that the enemy was again advancing, and the troops had to march urgently for several more days, passing through Ningyuan and then returning to Xintian before finally reaching Jiahe, leaving the enemy behind.
