How should benign prostatic hyperplasia be treated?

Patient's question:

Recently, our company organized a health check-up, and the results showed that I have benign prostatic hyperplasia. I want to use medication for treatment, but I'm not sure if it can be completely cured. How should I be treated?

Doctor's answer:

Prostate hyperplasia primarily occurs in the inner layer, in the stroma of the glands between the bladder neck and the verumontanum of the posterior urethra, now referred to as the transition zone. Under microscopic examination, the transition zone is clearly visible. The stroma shows mild fibrosis, with a structure based on fibrotic connective tissue and smooth muscle. There is also a reduction in glandular cysts. Symptoms include frequent urination, urgency, nocturia, and urge incontinence, mainly due to the obstruction of the urinary tract caused by prostate hyperplasia. Prostate hyperplasia can be relieved, so medication should be used symptomatically during treatment. Additionally, patients need to maintain a light diet, avoid spicy foods, and not smoke or drink beer.
