Patient, please do not fight cancer hard

Publishing Date: 1999-01-01
Features: This book consists of 10 chapters and was originally serialized in Japan's "Literary Spring" magazine from 1995 to 1996, winning the Readers' Award. It provides an in-depth exploration of cancer, critically examines conventional treatment methods and prevailing views, and presents groundbreaking conclusions: surgery is largely ineffective for cancer, chemotherapy is meaningful only for 10% of cancer patients, and cancer screening does more harm than good. The authors' unconventional insights can liberate many people from fear and anxiety about cancer. This book is based on the revised articles I serialized in "Literary Spring" magazine starting in February 1995, originally titled "When You Have Cancer, Go to the Frontline of Cancer." The series received immense response from all walks of life. I myself felt compelled to write and expand the content from the originally planned three installments to ten. The book compiles all the knowledge readers should know about cancer or its treatment, making it a standalone volume.
Regarding cancer and its treatments, the public has formed certain fixed common sense or conventional views: cancer is terrifying, and if diagnosed, one should undergo surgery or chemotherapy; the best way to combat cancer is early detection, early treatment, and mandatory cancer screening, etc. This book thoroughly examines these fixed common sense or conventional views and concludes: surgery is largely ineffective for cancer, chemotherapy drugs are meaningful only for 10% of cancer patients, and cancer screening does more harm than good. This book is not meant to claim that cancer can be cured if treated this way, or that the future of cancer treatment is bright. What I want to convey is that cancer remains incurable now and in the future. So, does this not have the opposite effect? Wouldn’t people’s fear and anxiety about cancer increase even more? In reality, the root of this fear and anxiety stems from a lack of understanding or misunderstanding of cancer’s nature. Once new knowledge and perspectives are gained, this unease and fear naturally dissipate.
After the full serialization was completed, I received a letter from a gentleman at a publishing house, who wrote: "After truly understanding and recognizing cancer, I realized it’s not as terrifying as I thought, and my mental burden has lifted." I hope that after reading this book, more people can be liberated from their fear and anxiety about cancer. Another feature of this book is its emphasis on theory, grounded in science. It scientifically and theoretically analyzes the essence and characteristics of cancer and its treatments, offering fresh and useful knowledge and perspectives even to cancer treatment experts. However, to make it accessible to general readers, I have strived to use plain language. Frankly, I have put considerable effort into making the content of this book.
The book also introduces the distinction between "true cancer" and "suspected cancer." In cancer, there are "true cancers" and "suspected cancers," a new concept that might seem difficult to grasp at first, but I believe it is straightforward. Moreover, if the concept of "suspected cancer" is further validated, it could lead to the fundamental collapse of the current cancer treatment system. Please read this book’s perspectives patiently. I sometimes repeat certain common-sense points in the book, and I was once worried during serialization whether readers would understand them. When compiling this book, I learned that the voting results for all articles in "Literary Spring" magazine in 1995 showed that 20% of readers supported the serialized content, and it won the 57th "Literary Spring" Readers' Award. This alleviated my original concerns, and I would like to express my gratitude to all readers who were passionate about the serialization.
From the beginning of the serialization, I intentionally listed the real names of cancer experts and the hospitals they belong to, deciding to expose them thoroughly. Why? Because this book aims to correct accepted common sense and ingrained views, which are shaped by these experts. Japan’s suboptimal outcomes in cancer treatment are, in fact, a result of the actions and statements of so-called authorities, famous doctors, and other experts. This book analyzes these experts’ statements from this perspective. Since I have named them, I expect them to respond. I have also published two other books: "The Cancer Treatment I Want to Receive" (Aozora Shuppan) and "Is Cancer Cured by Surgery?" (Shinchōsha). Parts of this book overlap with the two aforementioned works. As mentioned earlier, the serialized content expanded beyond the original plan. When compiling this book, I considered deleting the repeated parts, but I thought that removing already published content might create the impression that it had issues. Since I have named the experts, I decided to keep the content as is.
Additionally, each chapter was serialized in a separate issue, so readers can start from any issue without issue. However, the transitions at the end of each chapter may be somewhat repetitive, so please bear with it.
I wrote this book with another purpose: to use cancer as a stage to advocate for the reconstruction of modern medicine. Modern medicine is based on Western medicine, but it is criticized for focusing only on diseases and organs rather than on patients. As a result, many people turn to traditional Chinese medicine and folk remedies for cancer treatment. But why does medicine and medical practice that do not diagnose or cannot diagnose people exist? Modern medicine and Western medicine are science-based, and as long as science is used correctly, it can benefit humanity. Regarding the criticism of Western medicine mentioned earlier, we should adopt the following perspective: the issue is not modern medicine itself but the way doctors practice it. Until now, modern medicine has been seen as only capable of treating diseases and not people because doctors who use it blindly treat any condition without regard for the individual. A typical example is cancer treatment: for patients with limited lifespans, doctors perform surgeries to remove organs or administer radiation and chemotherapy, leading to the perception that they focus only on organs and not on patients. This is unavoidable. If humanity does not abuse science and technology but uses it to understand the essence of cancer or patients, I am confident that modern medicine can truly benefit humanity.
How can patients regain their rights and humanity within the framework of modern medicine? I hope to provide a suitable prescription for patients.
[Editor’s Recommendation] A cancer revolution book that shook Japan. A guide to rational action for cancer patients, breaking through traditional cancer treatment concepts and thoroughly rethinking cancer treatment. A book that should never be out of reach—Huaxia Pocket Books. Why does cancer increase despite treatment? Why are surgery and chemotherapy ineffective for 90% of cancer patients? Why does cancer screening do more harm than good? Why does early detection and early treatment not prolong cancer patients’ lives? This book, which has caused a stir in Japan, will give cancer doctors a wake-up call! Wake up! Those who refuse to be slaves to cancer!
