Xu Beihong: A distinguished Chinese painter, former President of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and Chairman of the China Artists Association. Xu Beihong drew inspiration from Western classical realistic painting and vigorously advocated the use of "realism" to reform Chinese painting. He emphasized "learning directly from nature," especially his theory that "sketching is the foundation of all plastic arts," which had a revolutionary impact on the history of Chinese painting. It marked the end of the more than 1,000-year-old tradition of red-line filling in painting and the birth of a new form of Chinese painting, earning him the title of "Father of Modern Chinese Painting."
Special Acknowledgment: Ms. Liao Jingwen, the wife of Xu Beihong, devoted great effort to the publication of this album. We sincerely wish Ms. Liao good health and peace!
