Science Philosophy (Philosophy Interdisciplinary Series)

Publish Date: 2004-08-18
Features: Philosophy of science is an important branch of contemporary Western philosophy, yet it is also a relatively independent philosophical discipline. Many universities abroad offer such courses for students in the humanities and sciences, and China is no exception. Currently, scientific philosophy publications in China can be broadly divided into two categories: one belongs to the nature of the history of philosophy of science, and the other is an introduction to the philosophy of science. The greatest feature of this book is its combination of historical analysis and theoretical discussion, drawing on the research achievements of the above two categories and making further developments and innovations. The author strives to avoid repetition of similar publications, presenting the research results of the philosophy of science at home and abroad in a completely new way. The book is divided into four main parts: the disciplinary nature of the philosophy of science, its historical development, basic topics, and related topics, broadly encompassing the main content of both the broad and narrow definitions of the philosophy of science. Of course, the book still focuses on the narrow definition of the philosophy of science, referencing similar textbooks or reading materials from universities abroad and paying attention to absorbing others' strengths. This book can be used as a teaching material in domestic universities. Additionally, in terms of writing style, it takes into account both professional standards and the needs of general readers, striving to be as accessible as possible, especially in bridging the gap between the humanities and sciences, where certain attempts and explorations have been made.
