What are the causes of cerebral palsy in children?

Patient's question:

My aunt's sister, I heard she gave birth to a daughter. When she was born, the initial check-up showed that her intellectual development was relatively normal. But now, it's been gradually discovered that the child is slower than other children in doing everything. At 9 months old, she still cannot crawl, sit up, or even communicate intentionally. The examination results indicate that she has cerebral palsy.

Doctor's answer:

There are many causes of cerebral palsy. In some cases, there may be multiple factors involved. Antenatal factors are the most common, including genetic and chromosomal diseases, congenital infections, brain malformations or developmental abnormalities, fetal brain ischemia, and hypoxia caused by periventricular leukomalacia or basal ganglia damage. Perinatal factors refer to brain injuries that occur within one week of birth, including brain edema, neonatal shock, intracranial hemorrhage, sepsis or central nervous system infection, as well as hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
