Features: This book is specifically written for correspondence teaching needs in the field of Electrical Engineering and Automation. It places particular emphasis on the integration of fundamental content and the selection of difficulty levels, aiming to facilitate teaching and make it more suitable for self-study. The book consists of six chapters. Chapter 1 is an introduction, covering basic theories and methods of electric machines, as well as common issues. Chapter 2 introduces the basic principles of DC machines and the fundamental characteristics of DC generators and motors, along with a brief overview of basic knowledge of power transmission. Chapter 3 discusses transformers, particularly the operating principles and parallel operation methods of power transformers, and introduces the application of symmetrical component method in the analysis of unbalanced operations. Chapter 4 focuses on the basic theory of AC machine windings, primarily covering the electromotive force (EMF) and magnetic field (MMF) of three-phase AC windings. Chapter 5 emphasizes the operating principles and basic characteristics of three-phase induction motors, and also touches on single-phase induction motors. Chapter 6 covers synchronous machines, including the operating principles, characteristics, parallel operation methods of synchronous generators, and the operating features of synchronous motors. Applications of various micro and special motors are introduced in relevant chapters. For teaching convenience, each chapter is equipped with a moderate number of examples, along with numerous review questions and exercises, and reference answers are provided at the end of the book. This book can serve as a teaching text and reference for students majoring in Electrical Engineering and Automation and other related disciplines (e.g., Mechatronics, Automation), as well as a reference for general electrical engineering technicians.
