7.1 The Importance of Road Testing
Of course, we all want to buy a car that is comfortable, fast, and safe for transportation. Therefore, a road test is essential to gain a deeper understanding of the vehicle you’ve been satisfied with after viewing it for so long. It’s important to determine whether the car is just superficially appealing or truly capable—whether it accelerates quickly when you press the accelerator, maintains power when climbing hills, and turns smoothly. When pressing the accelerator, the car should respond immediately. It should have enough power when going uphill and be stable when turning. In addition to the sounds of the engine and other mechanical parts operating, the friction between the tires and the road, and the rapid friction of air against the body, there should be no other unnecessary noises. On rainy or snowy days, the additional road noise can mask abnormal noises caused by mechanical issues. Therefore, it’s best to avoid road tests under such weather conditions.
· As mentioned earlier, after the engine starts, all red and orange lights on the dashboard should automatically turn off within a few seconds—this is normal. If any light remains on, it indicates a problem with that system, and road testing should not be conducted!
· If everything is fine, first ensure the engine hood is securely closed, return to the driver’s seat, adjust the seat and mirrors, remember the positions of all controls, and fasten your seatbelt before starting your journey.
· Press the accelerator a few times without any load to check if the engine speed increases promptly—a responsive reaction is ideal.
· Before starting your drive, it’s a good idea to engage or disengage the parking brake, then gradually press
