Does vas deferens blockage cause male infertility?

Patient's question:

My colleague has been unhappy these days. I asked her what was wrong, and she said her husband has a blocked vas deferens, so they haven't had children. It's not that he doesn't want them. Will a blocked vas deferens cause male infertility?

Doctor's answer:

Common treatments for blocked vas deferens include: tumor resection for varicoceles, seminal vesicle, prostate tumors, or cysts, which can be surgically removed; urethral incision or urethroplasty to treat urethral stricture or self-locking caused by urethral trauma; and artificial seminal vesicle for individuals with vas deferens dysplasia or absence, where sperm from the epididymis can be collected via artificial seminal vesicle for artificial insemination to address fertility issues. Infertility can be resolved, but the treatment process is generally slow and prone to complications afterward. Therefore, medications must be used symptomatically during treatment. Additionally, patients should avoid prolonged sitting or riding and pay close attention to personal hygiene.
