Patient's question:
My child is very active. Even when watching TV, she won't sit still and keeps moving around on the sofa. Her hands and feet are always restless. I'm really worried about what will happen if she continues like this, and even more worried that she might develop ADHD.Doctor's answer:
Quickly identify ADHD. First, is attention focused? Children with ADHD cannot concentrate for long periods, including watching TV, movies, or comics. Typically, hyperactive children can focus on one thing while disliking interruptions from others. Second, is there a purpose to the activity? Children with ADHD usually lack clear purpose. They are innocent, willful, and have poor self-control. Small things may lead to crying, temper tantrums, being easily distracted, and irresponsible behavior, whereas normal hyperactive children have goals and plans. During play, they should have a certain level of self-control and not be noisy.
