Features: The May Fourth Movement is regarded as "China's Renaissance" and also the beginning of the New Democratic Revolution. The spirit of patriotism, democracy, and science it advocated has had a profound and far-reaching impact. Especially in the field of thought and culture, the May Fourth Movement ushered in a new historical period and triggered a great philosophical revolution, which was particularly prominent in the philosophy of history. Therefore, to better promote the spirit of May Fourth, we cannot overlook the state of philosophical thought in this period. Regarding the philosophy of history, research by domestic and international scholars either reconstructs theoretical systems or is largely limited to the period before May Fourth. The exploration of the historical philosophy of Marxists during the May Fourth period is rarely addressed. Thus, this book attempts to reflect on the May Fourth New Culture Movement from the perspective of the development of modern Chinese philosophy of history, filling the gap in academia's research on the philosophical thought of prominent figures in modern Chinese history, especially the early leaders of the Communist Party of China. Additionally, the term "modern Chinese" in this book refers to the historical period from the Opium War in the late Qing Dynasty to the founding of the People's Republic of China, spanning about 100 years. Before this period is considered "ancient," while after it can be referred to as "contemporary" or "modern and contemporary."
