Patient's question:
Doctor, I had an unprotected sexual intercourse about twenty-four days ago. Three days later, I experienced redness and swelling of the glans and urethra, and also pain and swelling in the right testicle. Is it orchitis or varicocele?Doctor's answer:
Non-gonococcal urethritis (NGU) is a type of urethritis transmitted through sexual contact, but Neisseria gonorrhoeae cannot be found in the urethral discharge. Causes of NGU:1. History of unsafe sexual contact.
2. Incubation period of 1–3 weeks.
Common clinical manifestations:
Male patients often have serous or mucopurulent discharge from the urethral meatus or painful urination. Female patients often experience urinary frequency and difficulty urinating. If it affects the cervix, it manifests as inflammation and erosion, with increasing amounts of discharge, vaginal and external itching. However, some patients may be asymptomatic.
