Patient's question:
Recently, I've been troubled by a problem: a sore has reappeared at the connection point between my glans and foreskin, accompanied by frequent itching and pain. My friend said I might have acute superficial balanitis. How can I solve this?Doctor's answer:
Most cases of balanitis are caused by transmission through unsafe sexual contact. Secondarily, it can be indirectly transmitted through close-contact items such as underwear and towels. Trichomoniasis, chlamydia, mycoplasma, and gonococcal bacteria can also lead to sepsis. When the condition is mild, clean the exudate or pus from the inner surface of the prepuce, soak it, and wear clean clothes to maintain cleanliness and dryness. If the prepuce cannot be retracted, gently wipe it with a sterile cotton swab—do not force it, to avoid reoccurrence of preputial entrapment. For conditions with purulent discharge as the primary symptom, use potassium permanganate solution or a 0.1% Ringer's lactate solution for wet compresses.
