Features: This book is used as a teaching material for the ancient Chinese course in the history discipline of higher education institutions, specifically the Selected Readings in Chinese Historical Documents. The content of the textbook combines both perceptual and rational knowledge of language courses, reflecting the emphasis on practicality and perceptual knowledge in discipline-based language teaching. The arrangement of the textbook is structured around documents, allowing students to acquire certain knowledge of bibliographical studies while learning the language. The entire book is divided into six parts, arranged in the order of archaeology, the Classics, history, the Masters, the Collectanea, and ancient Chinese grammar and vocabulary. The first five parts are selections of texts, each preceded by an introduction summarizing the documents containing the selected texts. There are seventy-five selected texts in total, with more than half from the history section, followed by the Classics, reflecting the focus on historical texts in ancient Chinese studies and the characteristic of tracing the source and flow in ancient language courses. Each text is preceded by [Explanation] notes, providing a concise overview of the content and value of the text. The annotations are rich in both textual and historical details, with varying levels of detail to suit the needs of teaching and self-study. The sixth part covers grammar and vocabulary knowledge in ancient Chinese, systematically summarizing and organizing the grammar and vocabulary encountered in the selected texts to provide a concise yet comprehensive understanding. The textbook adopts traditional characters and vertical printing to help students master traditional characters and familiarize themselves with the layout of vertically printed books. This textbook has made some attempts in terms of editorial format, content, and printing style, making it unique among similar textbooks.
