Advanced Mathematics (Physics)

Author: Wen Li Wu Liangda
Publisher:
Publication Date: 1989-07-26
Features: This textbook is based on the "Higher Mathematics Teaching Syllabus" for physics majors. The entire series is divided into three volumes. The first volume covers calculus of single-variable functions; the second volume covers spatial analytical geometry and calculus of multivariable functions; the third volume covers series, integrals with parameters, and ordinary differential equations. The series was published in July 1989 and had a print run of over 30,000 copies. It is now in its revised edition. After more than ten years of teaching practice, this revision retains the strengths of the previous edition while the authors have carefully and systematically integrated the content according to the teaching requirements of the new century: some content has been adjusted, and certain key topics have been rewritten to make the difficulties more manageable and easier for readers to understand and master; additional typical examples have been added, and some repetitive examples have been removed. For specific revision details, please refer to the "Preface to the Revised Edition." This book is the second volume, covering spatial analytical geometry, differential calculus of multivariable functions, multiple integrals, line integrals and surface integrals, and an introduction to field theory. It summarizes the authors' long-term teaching experience in higher mathematics for physics majors, emphasizing the introduction of concepts through typical and simple physical and geometric examples, and teaching the core content of higher mathematics—calculus—in a step-by-step manner. The book is concise, with difficulties well-distributed, rich examples, detailed logical derivations, and a focus on explaining the geometric meaning, physical background, and practical application value of fundamental theorems. It emphasizes basic calculations and physical applications to cultivate students' comprehensive ability to solve physical problems. According to teaching needs, each chapter of the revised edition is equipped with an appropriate number of exercises, and answers and hints to the exercises are provided at the end of the book for the convenience of teachers and students. This book can be used as a textbook or teaching reference for undergraduate students in physics, radioelectronics, information science, and related departments of comprehensive universities, normal universities, and engineering universities.
