How should left varicocele be treated?

Patient's question:

My brother has been diagnosed with left varicocele, but I don't know what caused it. He hasn't been able to get pregnant yet. When he went to the hospital for a thorough examination, the doctor said he would feel discomfort in his testicles regularly. Since my sister-in-law hasn't been able to get pregnant yet, the family is quite anxious. I'd like to ask for some help: can this condition be treated? What should be done? How does it cause this?

Doctor's answer:

Due to blood stasis in the spermatic vein, it can lead to an increase in scrotal temperature, causing the testicular temperature to drop by 1℃ to 2℃. If the temperature remains elevated for a long period, it can interfere with the testes' ability to produce sperm, resulting in azoospermia and oligospermia. For this condition, surgical treatment is not always necessary. For younger individuals who have not yet married and exhibit symptoms, a scrotal support belt can be used to lower the scrotum, which may alleviate the symptoms. Those without symptoms or with mild symptoms may only need to use a scrotal supporter, wear boxer briefs, or directly use a TDP scrotal support pant. These patients often experience symptom resolution after marriage.
