Observer - Management Master Drucker's Memoirs

Author: Peter Drucker
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2005-09-24
Features: If you ask him what he does, he will say he is a writer. This writer has had a greater impact on people's lives in the 20th century than any other writer. "I hope to present a picture of society, capturing and conveying the essence, charm, and feeling that a generation cannot imagine. In my works, no book has undergone as long a period of revision as this one—20 years, these characters have been lingering in my mind, everywhere I go, sit, or lie down; and no book has been published as quickly as this one—since I sat at the typewriter and wrote the first word, it took less than a year to complete the entire book. Although this book is not my most important work, it is my favorite." — Peter Drucker
Reading Drucker's books is a pleasure, as they often bring sudden insights. — Zhang Ruimin, Chairman of Haier Group
Drucker is a hero in my heart. — Andy Grove, Chairman of Intel
A management thinker who has stood the test of time. — Business Week
With a strong thirst for knowledge, his bright eyes sparkle with vitality. You often feel that his thoughts are ahead of yours. — A.G. Lafley, CEO of Procter & Gamble
The purpose of writing this book is to portray some special people and their unique ways of life. It can be said to be a collection of short stories, with each chapter standing alone. I hope to present a picture of society, capturing and conveying the essence, charm, and feeling that this generation cannot imagine, such as interwar Europe, Roosevelt's New Deal period, and post-World War II America. In fact, as early as during Kennedy's presidency, the idea of writing this book began to take shape. Those years are not yet "history" for my children, my students, and many young friends, but they are as distant as Nineveh and Ashur in the kingdom of Giash.
The Observer is not just a good book, but the most important one in Drucker's works, a must-read for Drucker fans, and a necessary read to understand Drucker. I sincerely recommend it to all managers—I know that people have very limited time to read a book whose title does not include "management" or "leadership," but if possible, please open this book and start reading.
