Polymer Radiation Chemistry - Principles and Applications

Author: Ha Hongfei et al.

Features: This book systematically introduces the fundamental principles of polymer radiation chemistry and the current status and main process parameters in the field of radiation processing. The book is divided into two main parts. Part I covers the principles, consisting of four chapters: Chapter 1 briefly introduces radiation sources and the basic principles of radiation chemistry, providing essential foundational knowledge for readers who have not systematically studied radiation chemistry; Chapters 2–4 detail the radiation polymerization, radiation grafting, and radiation crosslinking and degradation of polymers. Part II, the application section, includes five chapters, introducing radiation processing projects that have already formed industries and still hold significant development potential, such as the radiation crosslinking modification of polyethylene insulation materials, the radiation sterilization of single-use medical products, and rapidly developing fields like radiation curing of coatings (including inks), the application of radiation technology in biomedical and bioengineering, and more. Some smaller but important fields, such as the radiation purification of industrial three wastes, are included in Chapter 9. Although the radiation processing and preservation of food are not closely related to polymer radiation chemistry, they are among the earliest and most in-depth areas of research in radiation processing and have been widely accepted in most countries, so they are also included in Chapter 9. This book can serve as a teaching material for undergraduate and graduate students in relevant disciplines of major universities and colleges, as well as a reference for technical personnel engaged in radiation processing.
