Patient's question:
I never smoked or drank beer before, and my health was also very good. However, for several years after getting married to my wife, we kept trying but couldn't get pregnant. After a thorough examination, the doctor said it was due to my ectopic epididymis causing infertility. Does an ectopic epididymis pose any harm?Doctor's answer:
Attached epididymal malformation may be related to endocrine dysfunction during embryonic growth and development. Due to abnormally high testosterone levels, mesonephric tubules and mesonephric ducts fail to develop or develop incompletely, leading to various types of epididymal malformations. If development ceases completely in a particular area, it can result in congenital absence of the epididymis and vas deferens. If growth terminates in a specific location, it forms a self-locking structure in that area. When the epididymal duct twists and coils around an obstacle, it can cause significant shortening of the epididymis and recurrent loop-shaped epididymal malformation.
