Features: This book is a research outcome of the "Reform Plan for Higher Education Content and Curriculum System Towards the 21st Century" by the Ministry of Education. It is a textbook for the 21st-century curriculum and a national-level planned textbook for the "15th Five-Year Plan" in general higher education. Based on the previous edition, this revision reconstructs the framework of the textbook, starting with the microstructure content and expanding thereupon to discuss properties such as equilibrium system thermodynamics and reaction system kinetics, making micro-theory the foundation for learning and understanding the principles of physical chemistry, thereby imparting deeper meaning to the teaching content. In terms of specific content, it introduces innovations while emphasizing the combination of fundamental theories and practical applications. The book is divided into three parts, totaling twenty-five chapters. The first part introduces microstructure, comprising nine chapters, with the main content covering atoms, molecules, crystal structures, and the principles of microstructure determination. The second part discusses the properties of equilibrium systems, consisting of eight chapters, primarily focusing on statistical mechanics and thermodynamics. The third part, also eight chapters, mainly covers kinetics and electrochemistry. To help readers consolidate their knowledge and improve problem-solving skills, each chapter provides numerous examples and exercises. The book adopts the International System of Units (SI) as the basis for its legal metrological units. This book can serve as a textbook for physical chemistry courses in chemistry-related disciplines of science and engineering universities, as well as a reference for relevant majors in normal universities and engineering colleges.
