Features: We are living in the age of information and high technology. News media are also keeping pace with the new landscape, and fierce competition has driven the practice of news work (reporting, writing, editing, and commenting) to continuously transform and innovate. Given the increasingly apparent gap between the theory of university-level journalism and media practice, it is urgent to elevate the latest achievements of news practice to theory, elaborate on them, and provide guidance. This requires both seasoned professionals with extensive experience in news work and experts with profound academic knowledge in journalism and communication to jointly forge a new generation of journalism and communication textbooks. Our effort to launch the "New Frontiers in Journalism and Communication Series" stems from such a purpose and philosophy. This book, "New Course in News Reporting," specifically addresses the flaw in current news writing education, which overly emphasizes writing techniques while neglecting the cultivation of reporters' judgment. It aims to construct a new framework for news writing textbooks, focusing on developing reporters' ability to judge the significance of news, select reporting models and perspectives, and aligning with the practical realities of media reporting today. This book holds strong guiding and operational value for transforming the approach to news practice teaching and elevating the quality of news reporting.
As the saying goes, "Each generation has its own talents, each leading the way for their time." New leaves in the forest push aside the old. This is the law of nature and social development, as well as the law of teaching and research. We look forward to the continuous emergence of fresh and vibrant new works in journalism and communication.
