What causes pain around the navel?

Patient's question:

A few days after birth, there was a protrusion at the navel, which was normal after being wrapped with bandage for a period of time. But later, the area around the navel often felt sore internally, and there was some loss of appetite, constipation, and relatively thinning.

Doctor's answer:

Pain around the navel. If it's a child, it's necessary to rule out parasitic infection as the cause of abdominal pain. If it's an adult experiencing pain around the navel, it's usually common to have acute or chronic enteritis. Generally, we first recommend some traditional Chinese medicine formulations, such as Muxiang Shunqi Pills or Yuanhu Zhizhong Tablets, to be taken orally. This can help alleviate the abdominal pain promptly. If, in addition to the pain around the navel, there is also loose stools (diarrhea) occurring three to four times a day or more, it can be diagnosed as chronic colitis. Further tests, such as a colonoscopy, may be conducted to rule out more stubborn intestinal diseases, such as ulcerative colitis.
