Patient's question:
My child has always had poor reaction time, weak memory, and low intelligence since childhood. Their simple thinking prevents them from attending regular school. A friend suggested it might be due to intellectual disability. Could you please recommend some good hospitals for intellectual disability?Doctor's answer:
Children with intellectual disabilities often have longer sleep times, are very quiet all day, and rarely cry. They take longer to master various movements (such as sitting, standing, walking, and responding) compared to typical children. The cries of children with intellectual disabilities may be sharp or weak, with little variation in tone. When external stimuli cause crying, the time from the start of the stimulus to the next cry is longer, and it may take four or more repeated stimuli to elicit a cry. They show no interest in toys and will not play with them even if held. From infancy, they may transition from excessive sleep and inactivity to constant, purposeless movement. The above-mentioned behaviors are not necessarily present in every child with intellectual disabilities in early stages, and it is certainly not the case that having one or several of these traits automatically qualifies a child as intellectually disabled.
