Features: Collection of hand-copied genuine editions, superior taste. The Legend of the Green Valley Immortal was written by Li Baichuan of the Qing Dynasty, investing nine years of effort. It tells the story of Leng Yubing, who visits the Tao to become an immortal, defeating demons and subduing monsters during the Ming Jixing era. The book vividly reflects the darkness of the politics at the time, thoroughly depicting the corrupt and lawless conduct of the Yan family. It also exposes their licentious and shameless lifestyles and the vulgar social customs through the stories of Wen Ruyu, a wealthy young man, and Jinyin'er, a courtesan, as well as Zhou Lian and Qi Huiniang.
The entire novel features vivid and fluent language, with masterful techniques in depicting characters and objects. It is one of the more influential works in Qing Dynasty novels and has been praised by generations of literary masters. For example, the scenes Wen Ruyu visiting a courtesan and Zhou Lian engaging in an affair were lauded by Mr. Zheng Zhenfeng as "the most outstanding ancient depictions of courtesan life." However, due to its portrayal of ghosts and spirits ("writing for ghosts and indulging in debauchery") and its deliberate imitation of The Golden Lotus in its sexual descriptions—certain phrases, such as "Qin da da, I can’t stand it anymore," remain almost identical—The Legend of the Green Valley Immortal was frequently banned. Currently, only one complete copy remains in mainland China.
